PET sheets are sheet products made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) as the main raw material, through processes such as extrusion, hot pressing, or thermoforming. Thanks to their excellent physical and chemical properties and diverse processing adaptability, PET sheets have been widely used in packaging, building decoration, acoustic engineering, and advertising displays, becoming an important material that combines practicality and aesthetics.
From a material perspective, PET is a thermoplastic saturated polyester with high crystallinity, excellent mechanical strength, and chemical resistance. PET sheets inherit these characteristics, exhibiting high tensile strength and flexural modulus, while also possessing good dimensional stability, making them resistant to significant deformation in environments with temperature changes or humidity fluctuations. Their smooth and dense surface is easy to color and print on, allowing for a wide variety of visual effects, making them highly favored in the decoration and signage fields. In terms of weather resistance, the addition of UV absorbers or the use of co-extrusion processes can significantly improve their anti-aging capabilities, ensuring long-term stability of color and performance in outdoor or semi-outdoor environments.
In acoustic applications, PET sheets often appear in porous or composite structures, utilizing their internal micropores or interlayer cavities to generate friction and resonance energy dissipation of sound waves, thereby achieving sound absorption effects in medium and high frequencies, and even specific low frequencies. Compared with polyester fiber boards, PET sheets have advantages in structural strength and moisture and corrosion resistance, making them suitable for places with high requirements for durability and cleaning maintenance, such as transportation hubs, commercial complexes, and clean workshops.
Processing performance is also an important advantage of PET sheets. They can be processed into complex shapes through hot bending, laser cutting, CNC engraving, and bonding, meeting personalized customization needs. From an environmental perspective, PET is a recyclable thermoplastic plastic; after disposal, it can be sorted and granulated for reuse in production, aligning with the development concept of green manufacturing and the circular economy. Currently, food-grade and medical-grade PET sheets also have strict regulations regarding safety and hygiene indicators, expanding their application scope in specialized industries. With advancements in materials science, PET sheets are evolving towards higher performance and functional integration, such as being modified through blending with flame retardants, antibacterial agents, or conductive fillers to meet higher standards for fire resistance, hygiene, or electromagnetic shielding. Simultaneously, its lightweight, high-strength, low-carbon, and recyclable characteristics give it broad application prospects in sustainable construction and smart device casings. It is foreseeable that, driven by the comprehensive demands for performance, environmental protection, and aesthetic value, PET sheets will continue to expand their industrial boundaries and market influence.
